day four nj
Hey all. First off, for those who choose not to scroll down, the show tonight in NJ is on and has been moved to 233 Hamilton st in New Brunswick. Just scroll down for the full info, or check to shows page. Sorry for the last minute swap, but the situation was beyond our control.
As for the tour, the shows have been going well for us. It's a bit strange to be coming back through NJ so soon, but it was also nice to crash at greg's place last night and catch up on some sleep. The show yesterday in NYC was both good and bad, but when we were actually playing it was awesome.
Let me rewind a little bit and explain in chronological order. Our first show in Danbury, CT was fun. The place had a huge stage and super high ceiling, but it all worked out. Not a bad start at all. Afterwards, we braved the backroads and rain to make our way to our friend Nancy's place in New Haven. The doods enjoyed some brews, and enjoyed a birch beer (thanks nancy) and we all enjoyed an Outsmarting Simon favorite: chips and salsa.
The next day it was time to run some errands, and then head to the next show in Taunton, MA. We finally got our trailer lights working, which is good, because we like to be safe. The show in MA was actually moved from All About Records to a cafe down the street. It seems they are having some problems with the town, which is unfortunate. Anyway, the good thing was that we could still play the show, and that's huge when you are a touring band. The show was fun, and after a personal refueling at Taco Bell, we started off for Boston.
See, the Paulson guys are currently recording in Boston with Mike Poorman, and being so close, we decided to head up that way and pay everyone a visit. At some point, a gross navigational error was made, and we ended up way off course. Some how we were in Chelsea, MA. I just don't know. But, by the time we finally arrived, our 45 minute trip turned into about a 2 hour trip.
We had a good time hanging out with Paulson that night, and the next morning we were able to swing by the studio to say hi to Poorman. It was fun to to see the place again and to catch a quick listen to some of their new stuff. Adam Taylor, the camp street engineer, was also there, and it was cool to see him again. The new Paulson stuff sounds great, and I really think there new records is going to become one of my favorites.
After spending a little too much time at Camp Street, it was back on the road to NYC. I drove all the way there, and it was a fun, yet slightly taxing trip. I'll freely admit that we can be little babies at time, but we do like to use the AC when it's hot out. Unfortunately, our AC only works some of the time now, and a large portion of the trip was a hot, sticky, mess. It was pretty smooth sailing through MA and CT, but once we got near the city, things did get a little hairy. Drivng to van and trailer through the streets of Manhattan is not an easy task, especially in near gridlock conditions near the Lincoln Tunnel. Well, partly by some moves of questionably legality, we got to the place and made it into the parking lot.
The place seemed pretty cool. It was an all ages show in the city, which is often quite rare. We played and had a great time, but afterwards things got a little strange. For one reason or another, the show had to end, and the guys running the show cut off a band in the middle. It was a little tense for a while, but luckily things didn't escalate. The worst part is, In Piecse didn't even get to play. It's such a bummer for those guys, and I hope they have a great time tonight to make up for it.
Finally, to bring us back to the start, PJ, Greg and I went to his place last night, and Maguire went with In Pieces to escort them to his place. So, maybe we'll see some buddies tonight in New Brunswick, but if not, we still have 20 some days, and even more states. So take care everyone and please make fun or our beards and lack of sleeves if you see us. Take care.
